Sooner or later, later preferably… we’re all destined to be pushing up daisies, before that time comes however there’s a few things in both my business and personal life I want to see accomplished. Here is my list to date.
Complete a project in each continent of the world.
Australia.
- Asia.
North America.
- South America.
- Europe.
Antarctica, probably can just cross Antarctica off now…
Goals for my work.
Run a blog, get work through it.
- Have my blog in the top 25,00 websites ranked by Alexa.
Have my work published in a reputable book/magazine.
- Write / publish my own book.
- Get flown somewhere exotic by a client, anyone in Hong Kong need a designer?
- Design a Google seasonal / anniversary logo.
Personal hopes.
- Restore a classic car. If you happen to have a 67 Shelby GT500 or 69 Ford Charger lying around…
- Buy our first home. Shopping at the moment for this, exciting stuff.
- Build a house.
- Sky Dive, the surgeon who did my hip replacements seems to think this is a bad idea…
- Go to Hong-Kong again.
How about you?
What’s on your list?

Also C is for Cookie, just in case you missed your spelling lessons with my friend Cookie Monster here. But, I digress…
2009 is quickly drawing to a close, as always Google have provided a little put a little spark into most of our days with a decorative logo commemorating achievements, anniversaries and events worldwide.
In no particular order, here are 50 of Googles 2009 celebratory logo designs.

As part of an intended 3 year rollout and $180,000 US rebrand, the English town of Burnley, Lancashire, last week began its journey with its new logo at the helm. No seriously… this is it.
Leading the way for Burnley is this ball of stuff, each strand of which represents a different element of Burnley. Red for urban, green for rural areas and half a dozen other colours for various unspecified traits of the town.
Gordon Birtwistle, leader of Burnley Council is quoted as saying “Burnley might have been a mess eight or nine years ago, but this shows we’re on the up.”
Wow.
If this represents the town today I’d hate to have seen the place 9 years ago.
What do you think?
3 years is a long road, I wonder if the logo design will last.

Through our experiences, education and environment the potential for differences in the way people see interpret symbols/logos is enormous. After a recent comment on one of my logo designs ( which I’ll get to in a minute ) I thought I’d take a look at how wildly opinions on symbols can vary.
The pentacle star is one such symbol open to various interpretations. Often associated with satanic practices, the pentacle star has had many meanings throughout history, the earliest of which dates back to around 4,000BC and is the Pagan symbol for the sacred feminine, the female half of all things.

The Swastika, made notorious in 1939 by Nazi Germany with their invasion of Poland. In western and european cultures this symbol is universally associated with one of the worst periods of modern history. Its root however are far less macabre.
Like the pentacle star, the swastika dates back to around 10,000BC. More recently, the swastika has been used in Chinese, Japanese and Hindu culture for around 3000 years and is still used today as a symbol of good fortune, blessings, luck, vitality and life. Continue reading...
