My logo design process

The design brief

Prior to beginning your logo design project, I would ask that you complete my online project questionnaire. A detailed design brief ensures your project is on the right track from day one and that the most appropriate final design is reached.

Brand and industry research

A critical part of your logo development is research into your brand and industry. This includes your services and products, unique selling points, competitors, your target market, your current image and the image you seek. All these factors are considered when beginning your project.

Sketching / concept visualization

Sketching allows me to explore a large number of ideas and directions. By doing so I can quickly visualize many concepts no matter how lateral or unexpected. While most will be discarded, exploring a maximum number of ideas ensures the most suitable logo design can be found.

Computer Rendering

After initial design concepts have been presented, the selection of ideas which are felt to work best will be rendered in Adobe Illustrator. Typically I will digitally render several ideas and create a black-only, greyscale and negative version (white on black) of each for your review. Colour options can also be included.

Presentation and client feedback

As previously mentioned, several computer rendered ideas of the selected logo designs options will be sent as a PDF file for your review.

While colour options can be provided, it is important that your logo work without it and so initially you should concentrate on the shape, form and most importantly the idea behind the designs. Once a final logo has been selected colour can be easily added.

Revisions and finalization

From here I await your thoughts. Questions or suggestions are of course welcome, and after receiving your feedback any desired revisions can be made before finalising your new logo design.

Once finalized your logo will be supplied as an .eps file. This is a standard, scalable file format which can be used at any size without loss of quality and is suitable for use both online and for printed media.

Business cards and stationery

Once your logo design is finalized I can also design and arrange printing for any business collateral you require such as business cards and letterheads.

Don’t be shy
